Open Your Mind

I enjoy every aspect of public speaking and putting presentations together to keep

individuals, especially educators, up-to-date with today's trends.

Over the past 20 years I have presented numerous times.  Topics have ranged from

CTE Standards, Career and Academic Planning, Family and

Consumer Sciences topics, to e-Textiles (Wearable Tech), and Technology Trends.

Through my work as a Doctoral Student at New Jersey City University, I expanded

my horizons to include technology integration, promotion and acceptance.

Please contact me if you are interested in a presentation.  I guarantee you will walk away with new information that will enhance your path in life.

Technology Workshops Examples

E-Textiles

This workshop covered the basics of what smart/e-textiles are and where they are going. Products were shared with participants, such as the LilyPad Arduino Design Kit, the Proto-Snap LilyPad Kit, and the 21st Century Fashion Kit.

Technology Today

This keynote presentation covered today's new and emerging technologies.  Conference attendees had the opportunity to see 3D printed products, use Aurasma, and gain a better understanding of concepts such as the Flipped Classroom.

Flip Your Classroom Upside Down

Flip Your Classroom Upside Down was an introductory workshop for teachers interested in learning more about this concept. Attendees received an example of a lesson that had been flipped, along with resources to help them begin to create their own flipped lesson.

Sparking the Fashion Design Curriculum

Wearable tech isn't something you just see in the movies! As a teacher you have the opportunity to provide smart/e-textile learning experiences to your students that make connections to STEM and the Arts.  Learn more about this area, along with the current research on incorporating smart/e-textiles into your fashion design course.

Make Your Clothing LIGHT UP, and Much More!

Presented with Arielle Bergmann and Dalene Bricker

Accessories of the Future Project  and Rubric

Why don't we see computers integrated into everyday materials like your clothing? Why doesn't your winter jacket tell you the temperature outside? Could you create a shirt or dress that dances with light based on the songs being played? Of course you can! This workshop will allow you to learn about the doctoral dissertation research that has taken place in Colorado on the integration of LilyPad Arduinos into the Fashion Design and Merchandising curriculum. You will have the opportunity to hear from three of the FCS teachers (Arielle Bergmann, Chaparral High School and Dalene Bricker, Northglenn High School) involved in the study and find out more about how they have incorporated the LilyPad Arduino into their classroom, enhancing student learning opportunities. Suggestions will be given on how you can incorporate this low-cost technology into your classroom and make connections to STEM/STEAM and FCCLA.
